Solar Panel Installation – Things You Need to Know
Installing solar panels is an important step in the process of making your home solar-powered. But there are several things you need to know before you begin.
First, you need to find a company that will install your system for you. The company will determine the best location for your roof and design the system so it fits your roof. They will also evaluate the electrical status of your home to ensure it is up to code.
Once you have decided on a solar company, they will order the solar equipment needed to complete the installation. This includes the solar panel, mounting structure, generation meter, and inverter. You can expect this equipment to arrive within one to three months. However, if you have specific deadlines for the installation, check with the company about their timing.
Once you have chosen a company, you will need to fill out paperwork. The paperwork will include federal and state incentives, as well as any local solar programs. Your installer will work with you to fill out all the paperwork.
During the solar installation, you will need to prepare the work area for the project. For example, if you plan to have your panels installed on the roof, you will need to remove any objects that will hinder sunlight from reaching your solar panels. Also, certain states require that you provide three feet of space around the solar panels. In order to meet this requirement, you will need to clear any bushes, trees, or other objects from your roof.
When you have completed your solar panel installation, you will need to have your electric wiring installed. Typically, this involves installing a series connection, which connects Positive (+) wires from one PV module to Negative (-) wires from another. Depending on your panel’s design, you may need to rewire your house to add a backfeed breaker. A backfeed breaker allows your system to feed electricity into your local electric grid. It is typically located near your main panel.
Next, you will need to prepare the mounting structure. The mounting structure will support the base of your solar panels. You will need a solid foundation and a good electrical plan. To achieve this, you will need to install mounting rails on your roof rafters. These will be spaced to align with the mounting holes on the back of your solar panels.
Solar panels can be installed on the ground, but if you choose to mount them on the roof, you will need to have a solid foundation. You should also install scaffolding, so you are safe during the installation. After you have installed the mounting rails and scaffolding, it will take about 21 days for the concrete to harden.
Finally, the inverter should be installed. Your inverter is a device that converts the power produced by your solar panels into an usable form. Usually, the inverter is installed near the main panel. Alternatively, you can install it indoors.
